Giants' offense looks lively to start season

PHOENIX -- After inspiring little confidence during Spring Training, Giants hitters exuded it during the season-opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Giants batted a lively .330 (37-for-112), garnishing that figure with a .509 slugging percentage, while winning their ninth consecutive series at Chase Field.

Manager Bruce Bochy likes to say that a productive offense "keeps the line moving" with contributions from players throughout the batting order. To say the Giants accomplished that would be an understatement. Leadoff hitter Nori Aoki is batting .429 (6-for-14), along with backup catcher Hector Sanchez (3-for-7), who hits at the bottom of the order.

Brandon Crawford (.385), Angel Pagan (.385), Joe Panik (.375), Buster Posey (.364) and Casey McGehee (.333) also sparkled. Though power is not the Giants' hallmark, they even hit three home runs as Posey, Crawford and McGehee connected.

McGehee's round-tripper, a two-run, ninth-inning job, padded San Francisco's lead in Wednesday's 5-2 triumph over Arizona. It also boosted McGehee's morale after he struck out with the bases loaded and one out in the first inning.

"The guys have been really good about being supportive and positive, helping me relax a little bit," said McGehee, who joined the Giants in an offseason trade. "... It puts you at ease when you really feel like the guys are pulling with you and they're not as down on you as you are on yourself."
