Sanchez gets another call behind the dish

SAN FRANCISCO -- Backup catcher Hector Sanchez was in Tuesday night's lineup against the Padres because he needed work, Brandon Belt was on the bench and Buster Posey started at first base.

"It's just the way it worked out," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "It's really just a coincidence."

What is not a coincidence is that Bochy likes to start his backup catcher every so often and tries to pair him with the same pitcher. Sanchez's last start came on Wednesday with Matt Cain on the mound, and Cain was set to start on Tuesday before he was scratched with a cut right index finger pregame. Instead, Sanchez caught Yusmeiro Petit.

"I like to keep him with the same pitcher so they can get acclimated to each other," said Bochy. "I have said that in the past."

Sanchez drove in five runs in Wednesday's 12-10 extra-inning victory at the Colorado Rockies. Tuesday was his sixth start.
