Scheppers, Adduci resume rehabs at Frisco

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers sent pitcher Tanner Scheppers to Double-A Frisco on rehab assignment, and he threw one scoreless inning on Tuesday night, needing just six pitches in the eighth inning of the RoughRiders' 3-1 loss to San Antonio.

Scheppers, who is coming back from inflammation in his right elbow, had allowed six runs in four previous rehab games, and the Rangers still see him not quite ready to return. He may pitch back-to-back games before he comes off the disabled list.

Scheppers was the Rangers' top setup reliever last season and manager Ron Washington made it clear they want him back as soon as he is ready.

"If he is ready to pitch for us, nothing is going to stop us from putting him in the bullpen," Washington said.

The Rangers also sent outfielder Jim Adduci to Frisco on rehab assignment. One of his missions will be to re-learn first base, where he started on Tuesday. He went 1-for-4.

Adduci was used exclusively in the outfield before he fractured the little finger on his left hand on April 18. But he has some experience at first base and the Rangers want him to be able to play there when he returns. The Rangers are without an experienced backup at first behind Mitch Moreland and Donnie Murphy had to play there Sunday for the first time in his career.
