Ibanez in rare company with Kingdome homer

SEATTLE -- The number of active Major Leaguers who have hit a home run in the Kingdome is down to eight, including Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez, now in his third stint with the club.

The Kingdome, the Mariners home field for 22 1/2 years, was last used on June 27, 1999. The team moved into Safeco Field on July 15, 1999, and the Kingdome's remnants are shattered in landfills.

Most of the players who once played in that concrete dome have moved on.

Ibanez, who is the all-time home run leader at Safeco Field with 67, came up in the late '90s with the Mariners. He hit two home runs in the Kingdome, Sept. 26, 1997, against Oakland and Sept. 6, 1998, against Baltimore.

The other players still around who connected inside the dome are: Alex Rodriguez (60), Jason Giambi, (4), Derek Jeter (3), Paul Konerko (2), Carlos Beltran (1), Todd Helton (1) and David Ortiz (1).
