Shae Simmons Undergoes Right Elbow Surgery
ATLANTA, Ga. - Atlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Shae Simmons underwent successful surgery today to reconstruct the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. The "Tommy John" procedure was performed in Gulf Breeze, Fla., by Dr. James Andrews.
Simmons, 24, appeared in 26 games for the Braves as a rookie in 2014, when he went 1-2 with one save and a 2.91 ERA. He posted 23 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched.
A 22nd-round draft pick by the Braves in 2012, Simmons owns 40 career minor-league saves (in 44 opportunities), with a 1.76 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 88 games (102 IP).
