Short hops

• It looks like pitcher Clayton Richard -- who will likely start for the Padres Opening Day -- will make his Cactus League debut at 12:05 p.m. PT on Sunday against the White Sox. The Padres have pushed back projected members of their starting rotation because of the longer Spring Training this season. The game will be televised on FOX Sports San Diego.

• The Padres will broadcast an additional 12 games this spring, exclusively on Padres.com, with the first one coming on Thursday when San Diego faces the Royals at 12:05 p.m. PT. In order to gain access to the free live audio stream, fans will need to be registered for and signed in to their free account at Padres.com. The other exclusive free webcasts will occur on March 1-2, 7-8, 14-15, 18-19, 20 and 25-26.

• Four highly regarded Minor League prospects got into Wednesday's game, including outfielder Travis Jankowski, who was the 44th overall Draft pick in 2012. Jankowski had an infield hit after entering the game as a defensive replacement in right field. Other Minor Leaguers who saw time were outfielders Jeremy Baltz, Rico Noel and shortstop Jace Peterson. Those four players have been in camp since Friday for the team's annual prospect mini-camp.

• Veteran outfielder Mark Kotsay had a double in his first at-bat in Wednesday's 11-6 loss to the A's, extending his streak of consecutive hits to start the spring to five. However, that was Kotsay's lone hit of the day in three at-bats. Non-roster infielder Cody Ransom had a two-run home run in that game.
