Short hops

• Mississippi State outfielder Hunter Renfroe, the No. 13 overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft, is playing in the College World Series in Omaha. His team defeated Oregon State on Saturday, 5-4, in the first game of the CWS for both teams. Renfroe was 1-for-4 and scored a run.

• On Saturday night, it did not appear that any of the Minor Leaguers at Triple-A Tucson with opt-out clauses in their contracts would do so. The deadline was Saturday. Eligible players included Tucson catcher Rene Rivera, outfielder Travis Buck and pitchers Sean O'Sullivan and Daniel Stange.

• Former Padres catcher John Baker was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on Saturday. Baker was designated for assignment by the Padres on Monday. He was optioned to Triple-A Tucson on May 31 after catcher Yasmani Grandal came off the restricted list. After being claimed Saturday, Baker was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas, the Dodgers' top Minor League affiliate.
