• Left-hander Max Fried, rated the No. 43 prospect in baseball and No. 1 with the Padres, according to MLB.com, played catch on Monday for the first time since the team shut down his throwing program last month when he reported soreness in his left forearm.

The team has been cautious with Fried. He could start the regular season in extended Spring Training in Arizona before reporting to Class A Lake Elsinore.
