Short hops

• Black said that pitcher Matt Wisler will start Friday's exhibition game against the Indians at the University of San Diego. Eric Stults, projected to be the No. 4 starter in the rotation, is set to start on Saturday. Tickets are still available for both games through the school.

• Third baseman Chase Headley proclaimed himself fit and ready for Sunday's opener. He started at third base on Wednesday a day after getting a lot of at-bats in a Minor League game. "I made a lot of outs," Headley said, smiling. He went into Wednesday's game with 14 at-bats in official spring games, as he missed time with a strained right calf -- seven from each side of the plate. He'll likely get a few more at-bats this weekend in the two exhibition games against the Indians.

• Outfielder Cameron Maybin (ruptured left biceps) has progressed to the point where he's taking swings in the batting cage. Maybin sustained the injury on March 2 making a diving catch. After an MRI, it was determined that he would likely miss between two and three months before playing in games.

• Outfielder Carlos Quentin was a late scratch on Wednesday with a sore left knee. Black said it was a precautionary move more than anything and that Quentin will be examined on Friday. "We just felt a Spring Training game wasn't the right time to push it," Black said. Quentin hit .152 in 33 Cactus League at-bats this spring with two home runs.
