Showalter honored to help salute Negro Leagues

KANSAS CITY -- On Salute to the Negro Leagues day at Kauffman Stadium, the Orioles wore the uniforms of the Baltimore Black Sox of the late 1920s, while the Royals represented the Kansas City Monarchs.

"It's an honor to be asked to do it," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "It's a great idea. It draws attention to something that deserves attention."

Showalter is a big fan of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.

"It's an ethereal experience to go in there, with all the statues," Showalter said.

Showalter said he was able to spend some time earlier in the week talking to museum president Bob Kendrick about Baltimore's history in the Negro Leagues.
