Gibbons hits the right note after anthems gone bad

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- John Gibbons did his best to turn an unfortunate situation into a positive when there was a series of miscues during the national anthems at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Gibbons came onto the field to console Jeff Fuller after the tenor had difficulty getting through both the Canadian and American anthems.

Fuller was unable to get through the Canadian anthem and also had a couple of mistakes in the American version, but as he came off the diamond the local singer was greeted with a handshake and a pat on the back from Gibbons.

"Poor guy, nowhere to hide" Gibbons said. "I admire him for sticking out there and doing it."

Fuller was only a couple of verses into "O Canada" when he forgot the words and began mixing up the lines. He attempted to start over, but the second time didn't go any better. And while the crowd attempted to pick up the slack, he eventually just trailed off.

The "Star-Spangled Banner" was then performed, but Fuller also had difficulty with the words, again. He made a mistake several lines into the song but eventually regained his composure and finished without any further difficulties.
