Slide into another season of Stitch N' Pitch

Event Promotes Knitting, Crocheting and Stitching at Major League Ballparks

Stitch N’ Pitch is up to bat tonight at Miller Park for its sixth year as one of the most successful needlearts consumer events in the country. The National Needlearts Association (TNNA) has partnered with the Brewers among other Major and Minor League Clubs to host people who love to knit, crochet, crossstitch, embroider, needlepoint, quilt, spin and weave.

The first 1,000 fans that purchased a Stitch N’ Pitch ticket will receive a special edition Brewers-Stitch N’ Pitch Polish Sausage bobble. Although tickets with bobbles are sold out, fans may still purchase tickets to the game and visit the Stitch N’ Pitch pre-game tables located on the Field Level Concourse in the right-field corner from when gates open until the Brewers take the field at 7:10 p.m. Tables will feature local needlearts shops, non-profit organizations involved in the needlearts industry and lessons on how to knit or crochet. Fans can donate completed needle arts projects throughout the game. Cathy Liska from Arte of the Nedle in Mequon, Wisconsin, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch on behalf of the Stitch N’ Pitch attendees.

The unique and fun nature of the Stitch N’ Pitch program has garnered national media attention, awards and recognition. International attention from the Japanese baseball team, the Chiba Marines resulted in an event that hosted over 600 people in their very first year. Stitch N’ Pitch has hosted two Stitch N’ Pitch events at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, where fans learned the history of Stitch N’ Pitch and were taught how to crochet and needlepoint. The Baseball Hall of Fame has accepted a knitted Stitch N’ Pitch baseball sock into the permanent collection in the Museum.

Patty Parrish, Executive Director for TNNA says, “Stitch N’ Pitch is a fun way to promote the needlearts. The continued growth and popularity of the program is exciting. We want to encourage more local needlearts enthusiasts to get involved and support Stitch N’ Pitch by attending the game or even hosting their own event.”

Stitch N’ Pitch will continue to raise awareness for Needle Arts Mentoring ProgramSM (NAMP) and Needle and ThREAD: Stitching for Literacy. More information about both needlearts charities can be found on the Stitch N’ Pitch website.
