Springer hurts right hip flexor on pickoff play

ANAHEIM -- George Springer said he's going to be fine after injuring his right hip flexor in the ninth inning Wednesday night, but the Astros are nonetheless concerned about their young right fielder.

Representing the tying run at first with one out in a 2-1 loss to the Angels, Springer's leg gave out on him as he tried to get back to the base as Angels right-hander Jered Weaver made a quick -- and successful -- pickoff move.

"Not bad. I'll be all right," Springer said after receiving treatment. "It just gave out on me. I went to get back to the bag and it just went."

Manager Bo Porter said: "I think he got kind of a cramp. His leg gave out on him. He'll ice it, and we'll see how he is tomorrow."

Asked if he would've avoided the out if not for the leg, Springer said he'd like to think so. He also answered in the affirmative when asked if the pain had subsided in the half hour since the game.

"I'll be good to go," Springer said. "It's happened [before]. My body will bounce back."

Springer homered in the fourth, just one of two Astros hits off Weaver. Springer also made a running, tumbling catch to rob Hank Conger of extra bases in the second inning.
