Vogt remains sidelined by groin injury

OAKLAND -- A's catcher Stephen Vogt remained at home for a second straight day Tuesday while recovering from a groin injury that required two ultrasounds.

Vogt, who took a foul tip to the groin area in Sunday's loss to the Mariners, underwent the second ultrasound Tuesday, revealing "nothing that would require any surgery," manager Bob Melvin said.

"Now it's just going to be all about when he's able to move around and play," Melvin said. "So it could be a while. He won't be here today, but he will be here [Wednesday]."

In the meantime, the A's will stick with two catchers -- Josh Phegley and Carson Blair -- and expect Vogt to join them Thursday on their charter to Arlington, where they begin a three-city road swing that also includes stops in Chicago and Houston.

"He moved around quite a bit more today," Melvin said. "He feels like he's getting better."

• Outfielder Sam Fuld is still limited in baseball activity, having been sidelined by back spasms for more than a week, but could potentially be available off the bench as soon as Wednesday, Melvin said.

• Melvin said Chris Bassitt (shoulder) could begin playing catch again by the end of the week, but he's not sure if the right-hander will make another start this season.

"Once he starts playing catch, we'll have a better idea," Melvin said. "We'd love for that to happen, but we're also going to be real careful with him."
