Moya launches two homers for Mud Hens

Last July, Steven Moya had the best month of his professional career. If Monday night was any indication, the Tigers' No. 1 prospect is gearing up for a repeat performance.

Moya, 24, swatted two solo home runs for Triple-A Toledo in a 4-1 win over Durham, giving him eight homers on the year. His big game came on the heels of a mini-drought (0-for-8) that was quickly remedied in the fourth inning. Moya, whose last multi-homer game was on July 4, 2014, appears to be heating up as the Mud Hens close in on the end of June.

His 2014 season with Double-A Erie was one to remember. The outfielder was named MVP of the Eastern League after launching 34 homers and recording 32 doubles, 102 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, and a .549 slugging percentage in 130 games for the SeaWolves.

In addition, July was his hottest time of year at the plate last year. Moya was named the Eastern League's player of the month after belting 10 homers, notching 33 RBIs and scoring 20 runs in just 29 games.

The Tigers signed Moya as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 and he's cracked 88 homers and 335 RBIs across all levels in his Minor League career.

No. 3 prospect Buck Farmer also turned in a standout performance Monday, striking out eight while walking none in seven innings of one-run work. His strikeout total matched his season-high and he picked up his first win since June 5 in the process -- though there was a Major League callup that was a factor in that gap. Farmer, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, stands at 7-2 with a 3.35 ERA this year.
