Super Bowl champion Wilson to throw first pitch

Rule 5 Draft selection spent time with Rangers at Spring Training camp

Super Bowl champion quarterback and Rule 5 Draft selection Russell Wilson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Rangers' game against the Phillies on Wednesday evening at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Wilson, a former two-sport star at North Carolina State and quarterback at Wisconsin, led the Seattle Seahawks to a blowout victory against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2. He was a guest at the Rangers' Spring Training camp this year after being selected from the Rockies in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 12.

Wilson spent two seasons in the Rockies' Minor League system in 2010-11, batting .229 with five home runs and 26 RBIs over 93 professional games between Class A Short-Season Tri-City and Class A Asheville. He was originally selected by Colorado as an infielder in the fourth round (140th overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
