Smyly to DL, Odorizzi scratched from start Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays had a whirlwind of activity following Friday night's 8-2 win over the Rangers. Drew Smyly highlighted that activity by going on the 15-day disabled list due to left shoulder soreness.

Smyly "has some left-shoulder stiffness," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "I'm sure we'll go through the process, get him evaluated, then have more to report later on."

Meanwhile, Jake Odorizzi, who was scheduled to start Saturday, was scratched due to a lingering flu bug. To take his place the Rays recalled right-hander Matt Andriese from Triple-A Durham.

The Rays do not yet know if Odorizzi will be able to pitch Sunday.

Infielder Jake Elmore was optioned to Durham and right-hander Andrew Bellatti was selected from Durham.

Bellatti is 2-0 with a 2.11 ERA in five appearances for the Bulls this season, four of those outings have been starts.

Alex Cobb, who will have Tommy John surgery on Thursday, was moved from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL to make room for Bellatti on the 40-man roster.
