Texas Rangers agree to terms with RHP Neftali Feliz on one-year contract

Feliz has been eligible for salary arbitration

Arlington, Texas -- The Texas Rangers announced this evening that right-hander Neftali Feliz has agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2013 season. Per team policy, no terms were disclosed.

With Feliz’ agreement, outfielder David Murphy is the only unsigned Ranger eligible for salary arbitration.

Feliz, 24, was 3-1 with a 3.16 ERA in 8 games/7 starts with the Rangers in 2012 after moving to the starting rotation. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 19 with right elbow inflammation and did not pitch again in 2012 before undergoing “Tommy John” ligament replacement surgery on August 1. He will open the 2013 on the disabled list as he continues to rehab from the surgery.

Feliz was the Rangers’ closer in 2010-11, recording 72 saves in 134 appearances. He earned American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2010, when he established a then major league rookie record with 40 saves. He is 10-7 with a 2.67 ERA and 74 saves in 162 games/7 starts with Texas from 2009-12. Feliz ranks 4th on the Rangers’ all-time list in saves.
