Soto hopes Reading Program catches on

ARLINGTON -- While he continues to make the final adjustments so that he can return to the diamond from a torn meniscus in his left knee after the All-Star break, Rangers catcher Geovany Soto is doing a little bit of work in the library as well.

Soto is the spokesman for the Texas Rangers Summer Reading Program, a program opened to students from kindergarten to 12th grade throughout the duration of the summer.

Students can obtain reading logs from any of the participating libraries in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to track how many minutes they read each day.

Those students who track every day -- Monday through Friday -- for four weeks, have the opportunity to become summer Reading Club All-Stars. Additionally, students can receive discounted tickets for a Rangers-Angels game on Aug. 17.

Soto will do a meet-and-greet and autograph a poster for one student from each library.

And if all goes according to schedule, Soto should be back in a Rangers uniform by then.
