Harrison tosses two innings in rain-shortened rehab

Rangers left-hander Matt Harrison was only able to throw two innings before rain stopped Double-A Frisco's game with Northwest Arkansas in the second inning at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco on Thursday night.

Harrison allowed two runs in the first on three consecutive two-out extra base-hits and then retired the side in order in the second before the storm washed out the game in the bottom of the inning.

"I know in the first inning after I got two outs I maybe relaxed a little too much and got out of my rhythm and maybe lost the strike zone for a few batters," Harrison told reporters. "I picked it back up in the second inning back and starting attacking hitters, getting ahead of guys and staying ahead of guys. I felt fine. I feel fine now. It was unfortunate I had to be shut down that quickly."

Harrison is on medical rehab assignment after missing almost all of last year with a herniated disc in his lower back. He will likely need at least three more starts in the Minor Leagues before being an option at the Major League level.

The Rangers have announced that pitcher Colby Lewis will start on Sunday for Triple-A Round Rock against Oklahoma City.

This would be Lewis' last outing before April 10. On that date, Lewis can elect to take his free agency if he is not added to the Major League roster. He has not pitched in the big leagues since July 18, 2012 while recovering from flexor tendon and hip replacement surgery.

The Rangers also announced that catcher Chris Gimenez has cleared waivers and accepted assignment to Round Rock. He was claimed off waivers from the Athletics last Friday and was on the Opening Day roster before being designated for assignment on Tuesday.
