Feliz throwing, but return date not set

ARLINGTON -- Rangers reliever Neftali Feliz has resumed throwing, although there is still no indication when he'll be ready to come off the disabled list. Feliz was DL'd on May 20 because of an abscess under his right arm and is eligible to come off Thursday.

"I've started playing catch and it is feeling better," Feliz said. "We've started doing everything we can to get ready to come back."

Feliz was placed on the disabled list with a record of 1-2, a 5.09 ERA and six saves in nine opportunities. He was taken out of the closer's role right before he went on the DL and Shawn Tolleson shows little sign of being ready to give the job back. Tolleson is 5-for-5 in save opportunities this season entering Friday.

"I'm OK," Feliz said. "I'm still working and I'm happy the team is playing better. I'm here to help the team win and I'm happy everybody is doing good. I'm trying to be healthy and do the job whenever they need me -- closer, eighth, seventh, sixth -- whatever inning, I'll be ready."

Worth noting

Ross Detwiler, on the disabled list with inflammation in his left shoulder, came out of Thursday's bullpen session without issues and is scheduled to pitch two innings for Double-A Frisco on a rehabilitation assignment Saturday. Detwiler, who will be used as a reliever when he returns to the Rangers, said the shoulder is feeling better than it has all year.

Nick Tepesch, on the disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow, is still limited to flat-ground work in his throwing-progression program. Tepesch said the elbow is feeling good but he is not ready to resume throwing off a mound.

• The White Sox are scheduled to throw Jeff Samardzija, Chris Sale and Carlos Rodon during their three-game series with the Rangers next week in Arlington.

Elvis Andrus had started all 48 games at shortstop before getting Friday off in the Rangers' 49th game. Next on the priority list for rest is third baseman Adrian Beltre. He made his 48th start at third base on Friday and has also started one game at designated hitter. The only other player to start all 49 games is Prince Fielder, but 39 of those were at designated hitter.
