Texas Rangers to hold City of West Night on Saturday, July 6

Activities to include pregame picnic and on-field ceremonies

Arlington, Texas—The Texas Rangers today announced that City of West Night will take place on Saturday, July 6 when the team hosts the Houston Astros in a 6:15 p.m. game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

On that night, the Rangers will host the residents and first responders from West, Texas which is recovering from the devastating explosion and fires on April 17. The Rangers are expecting nearly 1,000 individuals to attend the July 6 game.

The event will include a pregame picnic followed by on-field ceremonies with participation from City of West officials and first responders, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, and the Major League Baseball Tomorrow Fund. West Mayor Tommy Muska will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and the National Anthem and Color Guard that evening will be presented by individuals from West. The Czech Dance Group will perform prior to the game.

There will be also be a moment of silence for the 15 individuals who lost their lives during the tragedy in West. 

The Rangers will wear a SUPPORT WEST patch on the right sleeves of their game jerseys sleeves for the July 6 game. The jerseys will then be raffled to raise additional funds for the relief efforts. Raffle tickets will be sold at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 from the time gates open until 90 minutes after first pitch. On Friday, July 5, raffle tickets can also be purchased at the Rangers executive office during normal business hours.

Texas Rangers fans demonstrated overwhelming generosity for the team’s relief initiatives for the explosion and fires in West, Texas. During the three-game weekend series with Seattle, April 19-21, the Rangers collected tens of thousands of essential items for the West victims and residents that filled two large meeting areas at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington as well as thousands of dollars in gift cards. In addition, some $40,000 in cash donations went to the citizens of West from Texas Rangers fans and employees and the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.

Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association also donated $100,000.00 towards the relief efforts in West. More information on the on-field ceremonies will be announcing in the upcoming weeks.

The Dots from the Texas Rangers renowned in-game Dot Race will be in West this Wednesday, June 5 to film some scoreboard features for the July 6 City of West Night. The Dots will be filming in downtown West beginning at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
