Weather shifts rehab locale for Fernandez
Marlins ace to stay at High A for 2 more starts before Double-A jump
MIAMI -- Due to inclement weather in Round Rock, Texas, the rehab slate of Marlins starter Jose Fernandez is being altered.
Jarred Cosart, on the disabled list with vertigo, was able to avoid the weather Tuesday night to make his final rehab start with Triple-A New Orleans in Round Rock.
However, Fernandez, who announced on Monday that he will make his 2015 debut on July 2 and planned to fly to Round Rock on Tuesday for a rehab outing on Wednesday, had a change of plans.
Due to poor weather in Round Rock on Tuesday afternoon, Fernandez didn't fly out and instead will make his third rehab start Wednesday night with Class A Advanced Jupiter in Brevard County, his third consecutive start with the club.
Fernandez, 23, continues his journey back from Tommy John surgery last May. Following his outing Wednesday, the plan for the Marlins' ace is another start for Jupiter next Monday before making a final rehab start with Double-A Jacksonville on June 27.
Marlins manager Dan Jennings said it's not particularly necessary for Fernandez, who jumped straight from Jupiter to Miami in 2010, to face Triple-A competition this time around either.
"I just want him to get his work in and make sure that he repeats at a certain level, pitch-count-wise," he said. "The biggest thing is how he feels afterward."
