A's win replay challenge in ninth inning vs. O's

Safe call at first base overturned when Blanks ruled to have foot on bag

BALTIMORE -- Despite his team carrying a 10-run lead, A's manager Bob Melvin opted to challenge a safe call at first base in the bottom of the ninth inning of Sunday's 11-1 win over the Orioles. The call was overturned.

With one out, Jonathan Schoop was deemed safe on a grounder despite an excellent play by first baseman Kyle Blanks, who jumped high for a ball thrown from shortstop Nick Punto and found his way down to the bag seemingly in time for the out.

After Melvin requested a review of the call, it was overturned for the second out of the inning.
