High school OF Hansen is Dodgers' 3rd pick

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers selected Texas high school outfielder Mitchell Hansen with the 67th overall pick Monday on Day 1 of the MLB Draft.

The 19-year-old Hansen, 6-foot-4 and 197 pounds, also played quarterback at Plano Senior High School and has committed to Stanford, but Dodgers scouting director Billy Gasparino said, "From what we can tell, he's excited to be in the Dodgers organization."

One of the more well-rounded position players in the 2015 Draft class, Hansen has solid tools across the board. Evaluators who like him think several of those could develop into plusses, though he'll have to get picked early to deter him from his Stanford commitment. Hansen has a fluid, compact left-handed swing and a good feel for hitting. He uses the entire field, has performed well against quality pitching on the showcase circuit and with the U.S. 18-and-under national team.

Scouts have compared him to Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders and Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo, a high school first-rounder in 2011.

"He's a corner outfielder from the Dallas area, a five-tool player who bats left-handed," said Gasparino. "He's lean and we think he'll get bigger."
