Mississippi's Anderson to O's in ninth round

After going with nothing but pitchers for their first five selections, the Orioles went with infielders for each of its next two picks and chose Mississippi third baseman Austin Anderson in the ninth round of the First-Year Player Draft.

Anderson, who bats lefty and throws righty, was the Rebels' everyday shortstop as a junior in 2013, but slid over to third as his primary position during his senior season.

The Draft concludes on Saturday, with exclusive coverage of Rounds 11-40 beginning on MLB.com at 1 p.m. ET.

Anderson is batting .332 this year with four home runs and a .463 slugging percentage. Ole Miss will play Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend in a College World Series Super Regional.

In the 2013 postseason, Anderson went 6-for-13 in three games at the Raleigh Regional, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance against Binghamton.

Anderson made headlines this year when he hit a walk-off home run against Auburn while the Tigers were trying to intentionally walk him.
