Tigers caution fans about heavy traffic Monday
NFL game starts three hours after clash with Royals at Comerica Park
DETROIT -- While downtown Detroit prepares for one of its biggest days in recent sports history Monday, hosting the start of the Tigers' three-game division clash with the Royals during the afternoon and the Lions' season opener at night, the teams are preparing for the onrush of traffic around Comerica Park and Ford Field with two games three hours apart.
The Tigers have issued an advisory noting that several of Olympia's lots and garages will have space reserved for Tigers fans until 4:30 p.m. ET. Those include the Tigers garage, Lots 1-3, A, C, D, E, G, J, L, S, T and W. Fans will need to a show a ticket, parking pass or proof of tickets waiting for them at will call.
Other Olympia parking lots and structures -- including the Fox Theatre and Columbia garages -- will be available for Tigers and Lions fans alike on a first-come, first-served basis. In all lots, tailgating will be prohibited to save space.
Fans aiming to attend both games will need to purchase separate parking passes for each game. That includes Tigers fans with season or daily parking passes.
Between two stadiums' worth of traffic and construction downtown along Woodward Avenue, fans are encouraged to plan accordingly. Gates at Comerica Park will open at 2 p.m. for the 4:08 p.m. Tigers game.
