Tight side causes Dodgers' Crawford to exit early

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers left fielder Carl Crawford had to come out of Monday night's 8-3 Dodgers victory over the Giants in the bottom of the third inning because of tightness in his right side.

Crawford tripled leading off the second inning, but took his defensive station in the top of the third. He's day to day.

"We'll just have to see how he is," manager Don Mattingly said. "Historically, things like that don't normally go away overnight."

Scott Van Slyke pinch-hit for Crawford in the Dodgers' four-run third and had an RBI single. Van Slyke then went to left field. 

Crawford apparently tweaked his side while swinging. He felt good enough to go play defense, Mattingly said.

"When he tried to swing [in the third], that's when he told us," the manager said.
