Lincecum gives up five runs vs. Angels

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Josh Hamilton went 1-for-3 in his Cactus League debut and Tim Lincecum gave up five runs in 5 1/3 innings as the Angels beat the Giants, 8-7, on Kole Calhoun's walk-off homer in the ninth at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Monday.

Hamilton, fully recovered from the strained left calf he suffered during a baserunning drill Feb. 25, served as the designated hitter and grounded into a fielder's choice, singled off the glove of first baseman Mark Minicozzi and lined out to right.

Hector Santiago, slated to be the Angels' No. 3 starter, gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, walking three and striking out five. The Giants scored a couple of runs in the first on back-to-back RBI singles by Pablo Sandoval and Minicozzi. In the fifth, center fielder Tyler Graham walked, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joaquin Arias.

The Angels got on the board with a three-run fourth inning, getting an RBI single by Howie Kendrick, an RBI groundout by Erick Aybar and an RBI single by Chris Iannetta. Kendrick and catcher Yorvit Torrealba each had sacrifice flies in the sixth and Calhoun plated the Angels' sixth run in the seventh, getting hit by a pitch, stealing second base, moving to third on an errant throw and then scoring on John Hester's double-play groundout.

The Giants took the lead with two outs in the ninth against Angels setup man Joe Smith. Brandon Hicks doubled home Trevor Brown, who had reached on shortstop Grant Green's error, then Hicks scored on Graham's single. After Chris Dominguez singled, Ryan Lollis tripled home both runners to put the Giants ahead.

After Shawn O'Malley singled with one out in the bottom of the inning, Calhoun launched a Jean Machi pitch over the right-field fence to end the game. Lincecum finished giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out none, putting his spring ERA at 4.30 through 14 2/3 innings.

Up next: Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong will make his third start and fifth overall appearance of the spring Tuesday night when the Giants travel to Goodyear Ballpark to take on the Indians. Vogelsong, 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA in 12 1/3 innings this spring, is coming off a sharp five-inning start against the Rangers his last time out, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three and walking one. That game will be followed by the Giants' final off-day of the spring Wednesday.
