Tolleson finding a rhythm

ARLINGTON -- With a pitching staff that has had to deal with multiple injuries, the Rangers have relied more heavily on other arms to get the job done.

Reliever Shawn Tolleson is pitching well and could be coming into a more prominent role.

Saturday against the Blue Jays, Tolleson threw for 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run for the third time in a row. He currently has a 3.63 ERA in 16 games.

"I feel like I'm throwing the ball pretty well. I'm starting to get a good feel for my pitches," Tolleson said. "I'll start throwing a cutter which was a pitch that I threw back in the Minor Leagues and just kind of lost feel for and I'm starting to find that again."

Tolleson said that earlier in the season he got behind in counts and didn't locate his pitches as well as he would've liked. That led to a problem giving up home runs. Now he's working on finding a balance.

"I'm kind of throwing it with more authority and just kind of aiming it in there," Tolleson said.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said he's been pleased with the job Tolleson has done.

"This guy, has just been a one-inning pitcher and we've been using him for two," Washington said. "He's been good, he really has."
