Bench bats key Cardinals' sixth inning
Cruz, Moss each drive in run to keep St. Louis close in Game 4
CHICAGO -- Big hits from the Cardinals' bench kept the team alive as the innings ticked away while they faced elimination in Game 4 of the National League Division Series. Two runs scored with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. However, the Cubs would take the series with a 6-4 victory.
Jason Heyward and Jhonny Peralta started the sixth with singles against relievers Travis Wood and Trevor Cahill, respectively. Cahill notched back-to-back strikeouts before Tony Cruz, who got a start when catcher Yadier Molina was scratched with a thumb injury, rolled an RBI double down the right-field line that scored Heyward. Next was pinch-hitter Brandon Moss, who delivered an RBI single to right field that scored Peralta. Cruz was thrown out at the plate by Jorge Soler trying to score the go-ahead run to end the inning.
