Top prospect Franco leads Phillies' callups

ATLANTA -- The Phillies added seven players to their roster following Monday's game, and one is Triple-A Lehigh Valley infielder Maikel Franco.

Franco is the organization's No. 3 prospect, according to MLB.com, and he is somebody fans have been eager to see for some time. Franco struggled early this season, but he entered Monday hitting .324 with 16 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .922 OPS in 54 games since the end of June.

The Phillies also recalled infielder Cesar Hernandez, catcher Cameron Rupp and right-handers Luis Garcia and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. Franco and Tony Gwynn Jr. had their contracts selected from Triple-A. Philadelphia activated right-hander Mike Adams from the disabled list.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Phillies placed Cliff Lee on the 60-day disabled list.

Gonzalez also is a notable callup. The Phils signed him to a three-year, $12 million contract last summer as a starter, but they have made him a reliever because of health concerns. He went a combined 0-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 31 games with Class A Advanced Clearwater, Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
