Prospect Norris extends scoreless-innings streak
Blue Jays left-hander throws four innings of Dunedin's one-hit shutout
Left-hander Daniel Norris, the Blue Jays No. 4 prospect, and right-hander Kramer Champlin combined to throw a one-hit shutout Friday as Class A Advanced Dunedin defeated Brevard County, 4-0, in the first game of a doubleheader.
Norris started the game and struck out six batters and walked two. When he exited the game after four innings, the no-hitter was still intact. But the official scorer later changed the ruling on a play in the fourth inning, switching it from an error on third baseman Gustavo Pierre to a hit for Cameron Garfield.
Even with the scoring change, Norris continued his strong start to the season. He extended his scoreless-innings streak to 11 and lowered his ERA to 0.60.
Norris had struggled with his control early in his career, but made an adjustment to his delivery that seemed to fix the problem. That success has carried over into this year and, in 15 innings, he has a 17-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Champlin, the Blue Jays' 33rd-round pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, finished the game Friday with five hitless innings to earn the victory. He struck out two batters and walked two.
