RHP Lamet fans 6 in five scoreless innings to open second half with win

Left fielder Nick Torres was 3-for-6, center fielder Michael Gettys homered and Fort Wayne pitchers had a season-high 16 strikeouts Thursday night as the Class A TinCaps opened the second half of the Midwest League season with a 13-inning, 4-1 win at Great Lakes.

The win was the season-high fifth straight for Fort Wayne, which improved to 33-36 overall.

Torres raised his batting average to .322. The homer was the third for Gettys (.229), San Diego's second-round pick in the 2014 Draft. First baseman Trae Santos (.256) was 0-for-2 with four walks and a run.

Right-handed starter Dinelson Lamet (3.86 ERA) allowed two hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five scoreless innings. Right-handed closer Colby Blueberg (1.46 ERA) allowed a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth to suffer a blown save. Right-hander T.J. Weir (3-2, 4.64 ERA) allowed a hit with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings to get the win.

There was one move in the Padres' system Thursday. Right-handed reliever Jordan Hershiser -- the son of Orel Hershiser -- was promoted from Class A Advanced Elsinore to Triple-A El Paso.

Triple-A El Paso (37-36): Albuquerque 9, CHIHUAHUAS 1. 3B Cody Decker (.290) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, although he also committed two errors. LF Alex Dickerson (.316) and RF Rymer Liriano (.285) were each 2-for-4. RHP James Needy (6-4, 6.78 ERA) allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Hershiser allowed two runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings.

Double-A San Antonio (32-41): Midland 5, MISSIONS 0. RHP Elliot Morris (2-7, 5.01 ERA) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. RHP Aaron Northcraft (2.73) allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings.

Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore (31-40): Rancho Cucamonga 7, STORM 3. RHP Rafael DePaula (4-6, 4.71 ERA) allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings. C Ryan Miller (.309) and 3B Gabriel Quintana (.248) were each 2-for-4 with a run.

Class A Tri City (5-3): DUST DEVILS 9, Vancouver 3. RF Mason Smith (.150) had a double and a triple in three at-bats with two RBIs and two runs. 1B Nick Vitter (.375) had a double in three at-bats with two RBIs and a run. RHP Angel Mejia (1-0, 7.88 ERA) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. RHP Luis Hernandez (1.80) struck out two in two perfect innings. RHP Elvin Liriano (0.00) struck out the side in a perfect inning.

Arizona Rookie Padres (2-3): PADRES 7, Brewers 6. CF Josh Magee (.300) was 3-for-4 with an RBI. SS Benji Gonzalez (.538) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs. 1B Jonas Lantigua (.200) hit a two-run homer. RHP Joel Linares allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. RHP Nathan Foriest (1-0, 9.00 ERA) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning to get the win.

Dominican Summer League Padres (11-12): Orioles 8, PADRES 2. RHP Pedro Beltran (0-3, 3.52 ERA) allowed four unearned runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings. RHP Luis Perez (0.00) allowed three unearned runs on a hit and two walks with three strikeouts in two innings. RHP Jose Sotillo had two strikeouts in two perfect innings.
