May's Triple-A gem pushes shutout streak to 26 frames

Twins prospect Trevor May continued an impressive streak Saturday as he put together another dominant start for Triple-A Rochester.

May, the Twins' No. 12 prospect, gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four over seven scoreless innings as the Red Wings beat the Gwinnett Braves, 6-1. May hasn't given up an earned run in his last 26 innings of work, a stretch that spans each of his last four starts.

May, 24, is 5-3 with a 2.62 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 55 innings this season. He has held opposing hitters to an International League-low .196 average, having allowed five hits or fewer in nine of his 10 starts this year.

May was picked by the Phillies in the fourth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft before coming to the Twins in the Ben Revere trade. He went 9-9 with a 4.51 ERA in 151 2/3 innings over 27 starts last season for Double-A New Britain.

In 725 innings over seven Minor League seasons, May is 50-43 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. He has averaged more than a strikeout per inning every year since 2009, but he has walked an average of 4.5 batters per nine innings.
