Tulo finishes fourth in NL Final Vote campaign
Shortstop appreciative of fans' support
DENVER -- Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki didn't win the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote, and even lost some traction, after a final day of voting fun and frolic.
From Thursday until the announcement Friday that Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez won the voting to become the 34th and final player on the National League squad for Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Cincinnati, Tulowitzki actually lost a spot in the voting. Martinez outpaced Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, Tulowitzki and Mets closer Jeurys Familia. Martinez, with 15.1 million votes, became the second Cardinals player to win a Final Vote. David Freese, now with the Angels, won in 2012.
Even with his chances slipping away, Tulowitzki posted a video of thanks on the Rockies' Twitter account.
Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon had fun with the bumper stickers the Rockies produced.
Anticipating a wild final day of voting, the Rockies videotaped fans rallying the public with the familiar "Tulo" chant, one that arose when he was a rookie and a key player in the 2007 run to the World Series.
Try as they did, Tulowitzki did not receive enough votes to join third baseman Nolan Arenado and second baseman DJ LeMahieu in Cincinnati. But not to worry ...
... because the voting doesn't end there.
During the All-Star Game presented by T-Mobile in Cincinnati on Tuesday fans can once again visit MLB.com to submit their choice for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. Voting exclusively at MLB.com, online and via their mobile devices in the 2015 All-Star Game MVP Vote presented by Chevrolet, the fans' collective voice will represent 20 percent of the overall vote that determines the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.
