Twins agree to terms with Josh Willingham on three-year contract

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have agreed to terms with outfielder Josh Willingham on a three-year, $21 million contract.

Willingham, 32, batted .246 (120-for-488) with 26 doubles, 29 home runs and 98 rbi in 136 games with the Oakland Athletics last season.  He established career-highs in home runs and rbi, while playing in over 100 games and hitting 15-or-more home runs for the sixth consecutive season.

The Alabama native was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the 17th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft.  He spent five seasons with the Marlins (2004-08), two with the Washington Nationals (2009-10) and one with the Oakland Athletics (2011).

He has a career batting average of .262 (708-for-2707) with 156 doubles, 13 triples, 132 home runs and 434 rbi in 799 games.
