Twins make waiver claim on outfielder Wilson

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Twins claimed outfielder Kenny Wilson off waivers from the Blue Jays on Thursday, and he'll report to Double-A New Britain, the club announced.

Wilson, 24, was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Monday to make room for outfielder Darin Mastroianni, who was claimed off waivers from the Twins. So in that sense, Mastroianni and Wilson swapped teams via waivers this week.

"Ironically, he was the guy they took off their roster to make room for Mastro, but he's a guy we've seen in the Arizona Fall League," Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "He's an athlete. He can do a little bit of everything. We've always had interest and liked him."

Wilson, who has primarily played center field in his seven seasons in the Minors, is a career .228/.326/.312 hitter with 13 homers, 75 doubles, 20 triples and 196 stolen bases in 505 games.

In 15 games with Double-A New Hampshire this season, Wilson hit .210/.239/.306 with a homer, a double, a triple and eight RBIs and two stolen bases. He hit .259/.333/.375 with three homers, 14 doubles and 16 stolen bases in 55 games at Double-A last year.

Wilson was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. The Twins now have a full 40-man roster.
