Twins place Plouffe on 15-day disabled list

DETROIT -- Before Sunday's series finale against the Tigers, the Twins announced a pair of roster moves.

Third baseman Trevor Plouffe was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation between the ninth rib and costal cartilage on his left side. He suffered the injury in the third inning of Saturday's game while attempting to make a diving stop.

In a corresponding move, infielder Pedro Florimon was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.

The team originally called the injury to Plouffe an oblique strain.

"It's kind of in the same family, but it's not as severe as an oblique strain," assistant general manager Rob Antony said. "We're hoping it won't take quite as long."

The injuries to Plouffe and Eduardo Nunez, who aggravated his right hamstring after entering as Plouffe's replacement on Saturday, further compound the Twins' injury woes this season.

"It does make it a little more interesting," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of playing shorthanded. "You know you're going to have to every once in a while. Continuous playing short is not good. We want to give ourselves every chance and every option."

Florimon was scheduled to arrive to Comerica Park around game time Sunday.
