Position players get early start at camp

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Twins position players aren't required to report until Friday, with the first official workout set for Saturday morning, but it didn't stop several players from getting extra work in on Wednesday.

Infielders Jamey Carroll, Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe and outfielders Chris Parmelee, Aaron Hicks, Joe Benson and Darin Mastroianni all took part in informal workouts. First-base coach Scott Ullger even threw batting practice to several players on one of the back fields at the Lee County Sports Complex.

Several non-roster invites were also working out at camp, including Jeff Clement, Chris Colabello, Brandon Boggs, Clete Thomas and Brian Dinkelman.

"I expect it, that's normal," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Guys are anxious. Once you get through TwinsFest and Caravan and everything, guys are pretty pumped up about getting down here and getting going. I expect that. This is a good turnout. Most of the guys are here. It's fun to see.''
