Twins update injury status of Fuld, Pelfrey and Santana

MILWAUKEE -- Twins outfielder Sam Fuld has experienced several good days in a row in his recovery from a concussion that has kept him sidelined since May 8, and he's participated in full baseball activities, including throwing, running and taking batting practice.

His progress was one of two injury reports passed along by Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony.

Fuld will await the Twins when they return from a two-day stint in Milwaukee and will take batting practice with the club before Wednesday's game against the Brewers at Target Field.

Meanwhile, the club is waiting two or three days to see how starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey reacts to anti-inflammatory medication before he plays catch again after experiencing discomfort in his right ulnar nerve. He's likely to pay a visit to Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on Pelfrey's elbow in 2012, for a second opinion.

An MRI showed no structural damage late last week. Pelfrey has been on the disabled list since May with a groin strain.

Outfielder Danny Santana was back in the lineup Monday for the Twins and playing center field in Milwaukee. Santana sustained a cut above his eye that required stitches while running the basepaths Friday and had missed the previous two games.

Santana was fitted for a new helmet on Saturday after the one he was using Friday came off and caused the laceration during a slide into third base. He took batting practice before Sunday's game and appeared on track to return for the weekday games.
