Tyler Pastornicky to Have Season-Ending Surgery

Braves purchase the contract of infielder Phil Gosselin

Braves infielder Tyler Pastornicky will have season-ending surgery on Monday, August 19 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. The Braves will purchase the contract of infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett. He will be in uniform for tonight's game and will wear number 59.

Gosselin, 24, was originally drafted by the Braves in the fifth round of the 2010 June free agent draft out of the University of Virginia. He owns a career batting average of .258 (395-for-1532) with 14 home runs and 167 RBI over four minor league seasons. Gosselin began this season at Double-A Mississippi and was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett on June 23. At Gwinnett, he has batted .277 (46-for-166) with two home runs and 11 RBI in 47 games. Defensively, the West Chester, Pennsylvania, native has been used primarily as a second baseman, appearing in 355 games at the position.
