Veteran Furcal resumes baseball activities

MIAMI -- Manager Mike Redmond said that second baseman Rafael Furcal, who has yet to play this season because of hamstring and groin injuries, resumed baseball activities Tuesday, but it's uncertain when the 36-year-old veteran infielder will be able to play in games.

"He's running, playing catch and taking batting practice," Redmond said. "He's got to go through that whole process again, so we're still a ways off from him probably playing in games again."

Miguel Tejada, who recently signed a Minor League contract, has been in extended spring training at the Marlins' Class A Advanced club in Jupiter, Fla. Tejada is serving a 105-game suspension for violating MLB's drug policy that ends June 5. He is slated to have rehab assignments at Double-A Jacksonville and Triple-A New Orleans in the coming weeks.

"We'll see how much he's got left and if he can help us down the road," Redmond said of the former American League Most Valuable Player and six-time All-Star, who turns 40 on Sunday. "He's getting himself back into playing shape. That's where we are with him."
