Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex set to open at Children's National Medical Center
Ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the official grand opening of the family-centered, state-of-the-art education and care center
On Wednesday, June 5, Children's National Medical Center and the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex.
Marla Lerner Tanenbaum, Chair of the Dream Foundation, will join Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations & General Manager Mike Rizzo and several players, owners and front office executives as well as the Children's National Diabetes Clinical Team to celebrate the opening of the new facility. Screech, the Nationals official team mascot, and Children's National Medical Center mascot Dr. Bear will also be on hand to commemorate the special occasion.
The world-class pediatric complex will serve as the new home for the Children's Childhood and Adolescent Diabetes Program, caring for pediatric diabetes patients as well as children with cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and autoimmune-related illnesses, such as celiac and thyroid disease. This complex will allow Children's National to provide quality diabetes care with the help of its state-of-the-art outpatient treatment rooms and an education center, where families can participate in simulation labs to learn about proper nutrition and physical exercise, which are keys to diabetes management.
