Red-hot Castillo leads balanced attack

PHOENIX -- Not only did D-backs catcher Welington Castillo keep swinging a hot bat in Monday night's 13-3 win over the Phillies at Chase Field, but it spread around to most of his teammates as well.

Castillo homered, tripled and matched a career high with four RBIs for the D-backs, who smacked 17 hits. David Peralta and A.J. Pollock each collected three hits, Pollock and Yasmany Tomas homered, Paul Goldschmidt drove in a pair and nine players collected a hit.

"This team doesn't have big names, but we have players that go out and give 100 percent," said Castillo, who became the first Arizona catcher to hit a triple and a homer in the same game. "Everybody does his part and does his job and hustles, this is a good place to be because everybody plays hard."

This has been the best offensive stretch of Castillo's career. He has hit 13 of his 15 home runs since being traded to the D-backs on June 3. Eight of those have come in the past 12 games, during which Castillo is batting .385.

Castillo hit a solo home run off of Philadelphia starter Aaron Harang with two outs in the fifth to push Arizona's lead to 5-2. The following inning, Castillo came up with the bases loaded and cleared them with his first career triple.

"I'm just working on my approach," Castillo said. "It's not easy to hit, honestly, a pitcher that likes to throw anything, both sides of the plate, in any count, so I was looking for something out over the whole at-bat, every at-bat."

But it's not just Castillo carrying the load for the D-backs, who have 32 hits in the past two days. Peralta has eight hits in his past 10 at-bats and Pollock was a double shy of the cycle.

Tomas, who had been out of the starting lineup the previous three days, returned and had a pair of RBIs. Jake Lamb also reached base three times and Goldschmidt knocked in the team's first run with an RBI single in the third.

The D-backs did most of their damage in the sixth, when they sent 11 batters to the plate and struck for six runs on seven hits, the most knocks they've had in an inning all season.

Nine of the D-backs' hits were for extra bases, which included matching a season-high three triples.

"We just came with everything like we do, got the big hit, got a lot of hits," Peralta said. "We're just going to keep doing the same thing, having fun and playing ball the right way, and good things will happen."
