Team to watch
The Padres' last two first-round picks, outfielder Hunter Renfroe and shortstop Trea Turner, will open the year with the Double-A San Antonio Missions. (Turner reportedly will depart in June and become a Ray as the player to be named in the Wil Myers trade.) Two more Missions of note are flamethrowing right-hander Tayron Guerrero, a 2014 Futures Gamer, and center fielder Travis Jankowski, who should contend for the Minor League stolen-base title.

New faces
While GM A.J. Preller's wheeling and dealing mostly remade the big league club, it also added three prospects who have yet to make their Padres debuts. Right-hander Cory Mazzoni, acquired last week from the Mets for Alex Torres, will open with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. Righty Seth Streich, who led the high Class A California League with a 3.16 ERA last year, will be out for a while after having major shoulder surgery prior to coming over from the Athletics in the Derek Norris deal in December. The best left-hander in the system, Jose Castillo, was part of the three-team Wil Myers trade in December and is in extended spring training.
