Ventura loses challenge on tag play at first base

Umpire's out call confirmed after replays show Alexei sliding past, missing bag

KANSAS CITY -- The White Sox lost a challenge in the fifth inning during Monday's game against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.

Chicago manager Robin Ventura challenged first-base umpire Sean Barber's ruling that shortstop Alexei Ramirez was tagged out trying to beat out an infield single.

Replay showed that both Kansas City pitcher Jason Vargas and Ramirez missed the bag, and when Ramirez slid past the bag, Vargas tagged him for the out.

The replay official in New York confirmed Barber's call.

Adam Eaton scored from third base on the groundout.
