Noesi day to day after being hit by line drive

CHICAGO -- Hector Noesi left in the second inning of the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds at U.S. Cellular Field after taking a Billy Hamilton line drive off of his right hip.

The line shot ricocheted toward shortstop Alexei Ramirez, but no play could be made. White Sox head athletic trainer Herm Schneider and manager Robin Ventura came to the mound to check on Noesi, and after he threw a few warmup pitches, he was replaced by Scott Carroll with the bases loaded and two outs. Carroll induced an inning-ending grounder from Marlon Byrd, but the Reds still went on to win by a 10-4 margin.

Noesi said that he felt better after the first game because he was getting constant treatment. But the area was tightening up at the end of the night.

"When you are not doing anything, it's going to get tight," Noesi said.

He was diagnosed with a lower back contusion and is listed as day to day but didn't want to risk further injury by staying in the game after being struck.

"Yeah, it got him in a good spot I guess. It tightened up on him," Ventura said of Noesi. "At this point it's just day to day."
