White Sox place infielder Keppinger on waivers

KANSAS CITY -- The White Sox requested waivers on infielder Jeff Keppinger for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release Wednesday.

Chicago designated the versatile veteran for assignment on May 14.

Keppinger played in 117 games for the White Sox last season, hitting .253 on the season. He did not play any games with Chicago this season.
