White Sox Recall Trayce Thompson from Class AAA Charlotte

Prior to tonight's game vs. Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox recalled outfielder Trayce Thompson from Class AAA Charlotte. He takes the roster spot of right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll, who was optioned to Charlotte following yesterday's game.

Thompson, 24, is hitting .260 (101-388) with 23 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, 39 RBI, 53 runs scored, 23 walks and 11 stolen bases over 104 games with the Knights this season. He has appeared in 94 games in center field, five in right and four in left. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Thompson was named to the International League midseason All-Star team and ranks among the IL leaders in extra-base hits (4th, 40), games (5th) and total bases (5th, 171) this season.

A native of Los Angeles, Thompson is currently ranked by MLB.com as the No. 15 Prospect in the Chicago system. He has been named a MiLB.com organizational All-Star three times (2011-12, 2014) and midseason All-Star four times (2011, 2013-15). Thompson entered the 2014 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 8 Prospect, Best Athlete and Best Defensive Outfielder in the White Sox organization.

Thompson is a career .241 hitter (665-2,765) with 163 doubles, 27 triples, 101 home runs, 395 RBI and 94 stolen bases in 734 games over seven seasons (2009-15) in the White Sox minor-league system. He was selected by the Sox in the second round of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Santa Margarita (Calif.) High School.

Thompson's father, Mychal, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft and played 13 seasons with Portland, San Antonio and the Lakers, winning back-to-back championships with Los Angeles in 1987-88. His brother, Klay, currently plays with the Golden State Warriors, the defending NBA champions. His brother, Mychel, played for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2011-12 season.

Thompson, who has no major-league experience, will wear uniform No. 28.
